‘Energy’ is a field in which world-leading companies are heavily interested. The transition to eco-friendly energy from fossil energy sources (coal, oil, and gas), which generate toxic substances including carbon monoxide has been implemented gradually across all industries. Especially, batteries draw attention as a product to dramatically increase energy efficiency. Among these, the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery has been positioned as a new power source for various machinery and means of transportation.
Climate change is a hot global issue. The European Union (EU) announced its intention to be Carbon Neutral by 2050 last December and encouraged the participation of many countries to preserve the environment. Carbon neutrality refers to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions (carbon) by absorbing greenhouse gases emitted by individuals, corporations, and organizations. Japan announced that it would participate in efforts to achieve carbon neutral last October. Joe Biden, as the U.S. president-elect pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Moon Jae-in, the president of Korea, also declared “carbon neutrality by 2050” in his administrative policy speech at the National Assembly on October 28th, 2020.
